June Gin is a Research Health Scientist at the Veterans Emergency Management Evaluation Center (VEMEC), U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and serves on the Board of Directors for San Francisco Community Agencies Responding to Disasters (SF CARD). She creates evidence-based resources to help homeless service organizations prepare for disasters and recently completed a large study on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among unhoused Veterans. She led a federal team to develop Disaster Preparedness to Promote Community Resilience, a toolkit to help communities address the disaster needs of people experiencing homelessness. Her work is dedicated to enhancing equity in response to disasters and health emergencies.
Before joining VEMEC, Gin served as a community research and outreach manager at the Bay Area Preparedness Initiative, a joint initiative of the Fritz Institute, SF CARD, and community partners. She piloted an outreach program to increase the disaster preparedness of safety-net providers serving vulnerable populations.
Gin received her PhD in environmental sociology from the University of Michigan's School of Environment and Sustainability and her Master's in Public Policy from Claremont Graduate University.
