Extreme Weather Survivors: Organizing, Uplifting, and Advocating for People Harmed by Disasters

Wednesday, 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken A

Across the nation, millions of Americans are harmed by disasters like wildfires, floods, extreme heat, deadly air pollution, drought, and hurricanes. Extreme Weather Survivors (EWS) is an organization working to connect these survivors through peer support networks to help them navigate trauma, loss, and recovery. In this panel, EWS directors and members will share the work they’ve been doing in their first year to promote healing, amplify survivor voices, and empower them to advocate for systemic change to prevent future disasters. They will also discuss ways that hazards and disaster research could further advocacy efforts to help those affected by disasters.
