From Risk to Resilience: Effective Leadership for Building Community Resilience

This session will highlight predisaster preparedness and mitigation efforts at the federal, state, and local levels, with a focus on decision-making, building partnerships and capacity, making resilience investments, and ways that science is moved into action. Speakers will discuss efforts such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency's use of flood hazard data and mapping to support local decision-making, the Resilient America community engagement process for building resilience in coastal communities, the work local leaders are doing in communities before and after major disasters, and state perspectives on increasing disaster strength and frequency.
