New Ways to Connect: Not Your Ordinary Research to Practice
Mon. 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., Centennial F
How do we balance “scientific rigor and practical relevance,” or in other words, how do we attend to real world problems and simultaneously answer fundamental research questions? Transferring scientific knowledge to application is not about teaching practitioners how to read scientific journal articles. It is more than scientists giving presentations at practitioner conferences. To have meaningful knowledge transfer, scientists and practitioners must have a basic understanding of each others' priorities, needs, and challenges. This panel will share strategies from successful efforts that have overcome the hurdles of research to practice convergence and will emphasize the dynamic nature of learning to work together.
