Plenary: Under Fire—Public Officials and Disaster Policy Action
Tue. 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Interlocken A/B
Last year, a high-ranking official at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) declared, "There’s no more fire season. It’s fire year-round.” How are leaders in California—which experienced the deadliest and most destructive wildfires in state history in 2018—responding? How are they coming together across political and jurisdictional boundaries to support emergency management, hazards mitigation, and long-term recovery efforts? In short, how are they getting things done? This panel will feature officials from California who will share lessons learned in effectively responding to wildfire and other hazard threats.
