Building the Workforce for Community Needs

Monday, July 12, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. MDT

Community exposure to hazards and their demographics are changing rapidly. To increase resilience, adapt to climate change, and mitigate the impact of natural hazards, communities need the support of a diverse and interdisciplinary workforce that reflects the local needs and unique qualities of each community. Building such a workforce goes beyond investing in technical skills and requires a critical look at the career development pathways, education and training programs, and equitable access to resources for current and future employees. This panel will explore unique community resilience and preparedness needs and discuss ways to increase diversity in the workforce, advance skill sets, and develop career pathways to increase natural hazard preparedness.
