As a communications specialist at the University of Colorado's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), Eleanor Hasenbeck shares information, data, and tools to support proactive drought management at all scales, from the front lawn to the federal government. Hasenbeck is interested in water management and planning, drought preparation, and mitigation, particularly in rural communities in the U.S.
Prior to her work at NIDIS, Hasenbeck worked in journalism and communications, writing about health, science, agriculture, and water resources. Her work has been published in the Farm Journal, the Denver Post, the Colorado Sun, the Steamboat Pilot, and Today. She won multiple awards from press associations in Colorado and Missouri. She holds a Bachelor of Science in science and agricultural journalism from the University of Missouri and a Master of Science in water resources at the University of New Mexico, where she studied strategies agricultural users are implementing to manage drought in central New Mexico.
