Hollie Smith is an associate professor of science and environmental communication at the University of Oregon (UO) School of Journalism and Communication. She currently oversees the science communication minor and teaches public relations and science communication courses at the School of Journalism and Communication. Prior to joining the faculty at UO in 2018, she was an assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island with a joint appointment in communication studies and marine affairs. Since coming to the UO, Smith's work has primarily focused on natural hazards in the pacific northwest, including smoke and wildfire. She is a member of the U.S. Geologcal Survey social science working group and has previously served as a board member of the International Environmental Communication Association.
