Jagruti Rekhi is a social science analyst in the Affordable Housing Research and Technology Division of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In her role, she focuses on various aspects related to affordable housing and disaster recovery. In addition, she has been working in community resilience planning under this research project, where she oversees a contractor assisting and providing guidance to communities, helping them develop or enhance long-term plans to improve the resilience of their affordable housing stock to natural hazards.
Rekhi is currently overseeing several studies; these include research on the impact of Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funding on renters, investigations into environmental justice, assessing the effect of home modifications projects on the quality of life of seniors, and studies on 3D printed concrete walls in the context of affordable housing.
She has represented HUD's partnership with the National Institute of Building Sciences and MOD X by traveling to Europe. This partnership resulted in the publication of the Offsite Construction for Housing: Research Roadmap. This strategic report identifies key knowledge gaps and research needs to overcome barriers and challenges associated with offsite construction in the United States.
Rekhi is coordinating the Innovation in Affordable Housing Student Design and Planning Competition. This competition invites graduate students from various disciplines to submit plans addressing real-life affordable housing design issues. Her coordination ensures the smooth execution of the competition and encourages innovative ideas from participating students.
