Jeff Lusk currently serves as the director for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience, Field Operations Center West, which covers federal regions 6-10. He has served in this capacity or as Deputy Director since 2018, including assisting in delivering the economic assistance provided by SBA during the pandemic and the recent reorganization of the disaster enterprise in SBA. For the prior 23 years, from 1995 until 2018, Lusk worked for the Federal Emergency Management Agency across multiple programs within the preparedness, mitigation, recovery, and response mission areas. His primary disaster field assignments were as the operations section chief, deputy federal coordinating officer, and federal disaster recovery coordinator in the response and recovery phase of operations. In these roles, he responded across the U.S. to both natural and human-caused incidents, including 9/11, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, tornadoes, typhoons, and hurricanes. For his actions on Hurricane Katrina, he was awarded the Homeland Security Gold Medal. He is a graduate of California State Chico with a dual major in physical geography and international relations, and he completed his master’s work in geology at the University of California Berkeley. He also graduated from the Harvard Senior Executive Fellows program.
