John Voorheis is a principal economist at the U.S. Census Bureau. Voorheis joined the U.S. Census Bureau in 2016 after finishing his PhD in economics from the University of Oregon. Since 2020, Voorheis has served as co-lead of the Environmental, Natural Disasters, and Energy Research Group and currently leads efforts to develop a microdata infrastructure to study the sociodemographic characteristics of households exposed to environmental risk. Voorheis's research focuses on better understanding the distribution of environmental risk across households and how exposure to environmental hazards intersects with broader trends in economic inequality and mobility.
