Margaret Doherty is a senior program manager with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 8. An inspiring educator and leader, Doherty manages the region’s Community Engagement and Risk Communications Contract, including the ArtWorks program, while also managing floodplain mapping projects in Utah. Throughout her roles, she focuses on innovative ways to raise awareness of mitigation and adaptation to at-risk communities. Doherty is driven by a commitment to helping underserved communities build hazard awareness and resilience, understanding that meeting people where they are and communicating in meaningful ways can help reduce barriers and inspire risk-reduction actions. Before her work with FEMA, Doherty was a community planner for local governments in Colorado and Virginia and for URS. She obtained a Bachelor of Metropolitan Studies from Michigan State University and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado Denver.
