Stephanie McClure

The University of Alabama

Stephanie McClure is an assistant professor of anthropology at the University of Alabama. As a biocultural medical anthropologist, McClure studies the intersection of culture and health–how local context and social systems shape health status and outcomes within and between groups and how those contexts and systems are lived out in and by individual bodies. In terms of disaster response and preparedness, McClure is currently involved in efforts to build a statewide coalition of community health workers and allies. This nascent coalition sees increasing the number, visibility, professional support network, utilization, and sustainable compensation of community health workers as essential to strengthening Alabama's healthcare infrastructure, enhancing its community-level responsiveness, and reducing health disparities.
