Zhe Zhang is an assistant professor of the Department of Geography at Texas A&M University. Her research interests broadly include geographical information science and systems (GIS), cyberinfrastructure and cyberGIS, geospatial artificial intelligence, and human-centered decision-making. Her research focuses on advancing cyberinfrastructure and geospatial data science to provide data-intensive solutions to complex human-environment interaction problems, sustainability, and disaster resilience challenges. Zhang has dedicated herself to advancing impactful research, educational programs, and outreach services. Her work has been supported by various federal and state agencies, amounting to over $18 million in funding. Zhang's scholarly contributions are underscored by her authorship of articles in leading GIScience journals, including the International Journal of Geographic Information Science and Annals of the American Association of Geographers. In recognition of her research achievements, she was honored with a prestigious National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development award in 2023.
Moreover, Zhang has instructed a range of programming and spatial modeling classes. She is leading the K-12 education committee in the department. The education activities reflect her commitment to fostering GIScience literacy among students at all levels. Zhang's influential leadership within the GIScience domain is further evidenced by her roles as the chair of the Cyberinfrastructure Specialty Group at the American Association of Geographers and as the leader of the cyberGIS and decision support systems research initiative at the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science.
