Federal Social Science: Sustaining Collaboration for a Safer Nation
Monday, July 14, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Centennial E
Disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts at the federal level are enhanced by the inclusion of social science. These perspectives shed light on how people respond to disasters, why they may or may not be able to adopt hazard mitigation and preparedness recommendations, and when and how recovery occurs following a disaster. This panel will explore ways to successfully translate social science research into impactful, real-world action for a safer nation. Speakers will explore how federal funding has enabled the inclusion of social science research, which in turn has informed guidance, practice, operational behavior, and outcomes in the hazards and disasters space.
