Case Western Reserve University
Annika Doneghy is a medical anthropology PhD Candidate at Case Western Reserve University. She recently received her Master of Public Health, concentrated in health policy and management. Annika's fieldwork takes place in Greenville, North Carolina, where she uses an ethnography to uncover firsthand narratives and experiences of individuals with disabilities and other health conditions as they navigate ongoing cycles of slow disaster and chronic recovery. Her research considers diverse conceptualizations of "disability", "slow disaster", and "recovery" to consider how many people with disabilities and other health conditions hold different definitions and perspectives when compared to institutions. She aims to illustrate how traditional disaster practice and policy might fail to recognize these diverse and challenging experiences due to a lack of inclusion and disability expertise. Doneghy received a Master of Arts from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University.
