Building Regional Adaptive Capacity Through Community Foundations

Research, Practice, and Policy Session
Wednesday, June 17, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken A

Community foundations play critical and varied roles within the communities they serve by providing philanthropic investment, convening, and capacity building for nonprofit organizations. As such, they are key community assets that provide possibilities for increased civic engagement and sustained investment to build disaster resilience and adaptive capacity in blue-sky conditions. In an era of increasing disaster risk, community foundations are poised to play an enhanced leadership role in advancing the health and resilience of communities across the Gulf region. This panel will explore the NASEM Gulf Research Program’s Adaptive Capacity for Transformation (ACT) initiative, with a focus on how Gulf community foundations are advancing evidence-based strategies through the first-of-its-kind Gulf Community Foundation Resilience Network.
