Focusing Events: Leveraging Resources for Preparedness and Mitigation in At-Risk Communities

Tues. 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Centennial F

Considering the investments being made in emergency response and recovery in the areas affected by recent major disasters, how can we also ensure resources and attention are dedicated to those who are at high risk of disaster, but that haven’t recently experienced one?

By every estimation, 2017 was the costliest year on record for disaster losses in the United States. Public and private funds have been funneled into disaster-stricken communities to respond to the devastating impacts and begin the long process of recovery. In this session, panelists will draw from professional experience to discuss how we can motivate effective planning, preparedness, and mitigation action in at-risk communities that have not recently experienced disaster.
