Mitigation Saves: Next Steps in Policy and Investment

Mon. 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., Interlocken C

We know that natural hazards mitigation saves, but where do we go from here?

This session will examine U.S. mitigation practices through the lens of the newly released Natural Hazards Mitigation Saves: 2017 Interim Report, which updated previous estimates to indicate that every $1 spent on federal mitigation efforts saves the nation $6 in potential disaster losses. Panelists will highlight specific cases of mitigation savings across hazard types, discuss what the report means for promoting and funding mitigation through public and private-sector investments, and talk about next steps for Mitigation Saves research.
