The Power of Partners: Supporting Communities Using the Planning for Hazards Project

Wed. 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Interlocken B

Land-use planning can be a powerful tool to help communities mitigate hazards risks, recover sustainably after a disaster, and adapt to climate change. The problem, though, is that local governments responsible for land-use regulation might not have the knowledge or capacity necessary to plan for hazards. This session will tell the story of how a coalition of government, academic, and private sector partners came together to create the Planning for Hazards: Land Use Solutions for Colorado project and the many ways the team has supported and collaborated with local governments.
