Mary Fran Myers Gender and Disaster Award

Along with her work at the Natural Hazards Center, Mary Fran Myers was a strong proponent of promoting research on gender issues in disasters and emergency management. The Mary Fran Myers Gender and Disaster Award, which is co-organized with the Gender and Disaster Network, recognizes women and men whose advocacy, research, or management efforts have had a lasting, positive impact on reducing disaster vulnerability and gender inequality. Nominations of individuals and disaster-focused organizations that have advanced gender-sensitive policy, practice, or research in the areas of disaster risk reduction will be accepted.

Natural Hazards Center Student Paper Competition
Submission Deadline: June 11, 2020

The annual Student Paper Competition is a way to recognize students focused on hazards and disaster research. Papers are judged on originality, organization, and knowledge of the topic. One undergraduate and one graduate winner each will receive $100, publication on the Natural Hazards Center website, and free registration for the Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop.
