Maria Esteva

Maria Esteva is a research scientist at the Texas Advanced Computing Center. Her work focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of data curation applications. She works with domain scientists modeling their research data workflows to data management and digital libraries standards and mapping those to cyberinfrastructure to create sustainable, understandable, and reusable open data collections. As the data curator for the Natural Hazards Data Infrastructure DesignSafe Data Depot Repository, she works with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and developers designing curation and publication policies and best practices, developing interactive curation and publication pipelines, implementing data impact metrics, and assisting users. She was responsible for gathering requirements and co-creating the interdisciplinary data model for publishing engineering and social science field research data. Recently she led the successful Core Trust Seal Certification process for the DesignSafe Data Depot Repository. Esteva has a master’s in information science with an advanced certificate in preservation administration, and a PhD in information science from the University of Texas at Austin.
