Salvesila Tamima is a PhD student in the disaster science and management program at the University of Delaware. Her research interests include hazard mitigation, managed retreat, relocation decision making, and long-term community recovery. She is serving as a graduate research assistant at the Disaster Research Center and currently working on the project entitled, floodplain management in the United States: where, why, and how policies have shaped flood exposure outcomes, funded by National Science Foundation. She holds a master’s degree in emergency management and disaster science from the University of North Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in disaster management from the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Recently, Tamima received the Gilbert F. White thesis award 2023 for her master’s thesis from the Hazards, Risks, and Disasters Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers.
