The Palisades Fire: Dedication, Partnership, and Transformation
Monday, July 14, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken A
As the historic and devastating Palisades Fire burned in the Los Angeles area this winter, a powerful volunteer force was working tirelessly to protect residents and neighborhoods. This panel will tell the story of that force—the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation’s Community Brigade pilot program. Since its inception in the fall of 2023, the program has trained dozens of volunteers in wildfire response, recovery, and mitigation, empowering everyday people from fire-affected communities to transform heartbreak into wildfire preparedness and resilience. Panelists, including members of the Community Brigade team and their partners at the Los Angeles County Fire Department, will discuss their joint response to the Palisades Fire, during which volunteers worked for over 6,000 hours on evacuations, structure protection, mop-up, and humanitarian relief support. They will describe lessons learned and efforts undertaken to enhance collaborative partnerships, adaptive systems, and resiliency.
