Amanda M. Thiel, PhD, is an applied environmental anthropologist. She uses collaborative ethnographic methods to study people's relationships with the environment to revitalize cultural practices and identities and promote socio-ecological resilience. Her work spans ethnobiology, food sovereignty, natural medicine, climate change, and adaptation to natural hazards. She has worked with diverse groups, including Mexican and Guatemalan Maya and Mestizo communities, Tribal and Latine/x communities in the U.S., and others. Amanda is currently conducting research on community wildfire recovery in California, Oregon, and Washington, with the aim of contributing to equitable resilience for marginalized and other affected communities in the face of increasingly frequent natural hazards.
