Beth Bartel

U.S. Geological Survey

Beth Bartel applies social science methods to study how people in various roles make decisions about risk reduction. In particular, Bartel studies what information scientists produce for decision making and how all actors use information—scientific and otherwise—in their decisions. Two current areas of research are evacuation decision-making (Guatemala) and communication of hazard assessments (United States), both in volcanic contexts.
