Himanshu Grover

Himanshu Grover is Chairperson and Associate Professor in the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Alabama A&M University. Grover's research work sits at the intersection of hazard risk reduction, land use, climate change, and community resilience. Previously, he served as the co-director of the Institute for Hazard Mitigation Planning and Research at the University of Washington, where he also served as faculty. He has also taught as an expert resource person across the world.
Grover holds a PhD in urban and regional sciences from Texas A&M University, where his research on climate adaptation planning set the foundation for his academic career. He has authored/co-authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and several influential books and reports. His work has been supported by major funders, including the National Science Foundation, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security.
Internationally, Grover has served as an expert consultant to the World Bank and the U.S. Department of State, and has delivered keynote lectures and training across India, the U.S., and Canada. His recent research focuses on community resilience in transitioning urban landscapes, reducing flood risk, and public infrastructure preparedness, emphasizing community-centered, data-driven approaches to hazard mitigation.
A Fellow of the National Science Foundation Game Changer Academies, remote visiting scholar at Texas A&M University, and member of the journal Environmental Hazards editorial team, Grover continues to shape hazard risk reduction education and practice through scholarship, policy advising, and professional service.
