Julia Becker

Julia Becker is an associate professor and deputy director of the Joint Centre for Disaster Research in the School of Psychology at Massey University, New Zealand. She undertakes teaching and social science research on a range of natural hazard and environmental issues. Her areas of expertise include perceptions, preparedness, community resilience, emergency management and warnings. She has worked extensively in New Zealand on disaster events (e.g. Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes) and with international partners on many projects (e.g. U.S., Australia, Japan). She has been involved in the leadership teams of large research projects in New Zealand, such as Resilience to Nature's Challenges (https://resiliencechallenge.nz/) and New Zealand's Centre for Earthquake Resilience (https://quakecore.nz).
