Lucas Belury

Lucas Belury is a geography PhD candidate at the University of Arizona. His research examines the politics of spatial knowledge production in the US-Mexico borderlands by centering racial and environmental justice and science, technology studies frameworks. In collaboration with community-based organizations and researchers from around the world, Belury co-developed Flood Justice Utilizing Satellite Observation (FLUJOS). FLUJOS is a human-in-the-loop machine learning algorithm that brings the lived experiences of flood-vulnerable residents in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas to the forefront of flood mapping through satellite imagery.
