Margaret Vinci

Margaret Vinci has been a member of the California Institute of Technology's (Caltech) seismological laboratory staff since 1993, and manager of the Office of Earthquake Programs and SoCal Regional Engagement Coordinator for ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning. Vinci serves as the liaison between academia and critical users of earthquake information. Vinci's principal responsibility is the management of the Caltech Earthquake Research Affiliates Program, a partnership between seismologists, geophysicists and earthquake engineers and leaders in business, government and emergency response to assess potential risks to life and property due to earthquakes, the development of earthquake tools to reduce losses, provide education and training of earthquake science to develop earthquake resilience.

As Southern California Regional Engagement Coordinator for ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning, she promotes technical partner engagement, use of public alerts and automated actions to reduce injuries and damage to infrastructures due to earthquakes, and provides education and outreach of earthquake early warning to promote awareness and use.

She is the member of the team that created the Great California ShakeOut in 2008 and serves as one of the Southern California Regional Coordinating Chairs for the Earthquake Country Alliance to promote community resiliency and coordinate the Great ShakeOut each year; founding member of the Pasadena Fire Department Disaster Advisory Council, Map Your Neighborhood Coordinator and Community emergency response team trainer; long-time member and previous Board Member of Business and Industry Council for Emergency Planning and Preparedness.
