Maryia Markhvida

New York University

Maryia Markhvida is a disaster and climate researcher, educator, and practitioner. Her academic research and international development work with the World Bank focus on understanding the impacts of future disasters and climate change on society to inform equitable risk reduction strategies.

As part of her Postdoctoral Fellowship at New York University (NYU), she is also exploring the use of emerging technologies to develop immersive environments aimed at addressing climate risks and enhancing urban resilience.

Markhvida will soon be joining the University of Waterloo as an assistant professor in the Systems Design Engineering. She holds a PhD and a master’s degree in structural engineering from Stanford University and a Master’s degree from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
