Maya MacHamer

Maya MacHamer (she/her) is a dedicated practitioner and thought leader at the intersection of social and ecological systems. With over two decades of experience spanning all phases of the disaster cycle—including preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery—MacHamer brings a deeply integrated approach to building community resilience in the face of climate-related hazards.
In recent years, her work has centered on supporting communities in adapting to wildfire risk through grassroots planning initiatives and the application of multi-objective frameworks that emphasize both social cohesion and environmental sustainability. She currently serves with the Institute for Social and Environmental Transformation, where she is expanding the organization’s wildfire programming as part of its longstanding efforts in climate adaptation and resilience-building.
MacHamer holds a Master of Public Administration with a specialization in emergency management from the University of Colorado Denver. She is known for her commitment to fostering strong, cross-sector relationships and sees collaboration, creativity, and innovation as essential drivers of transformative change.
She lives in Boulder, Colorado, with her husband and two children, where they enjoy good friends, good food, and spending time together in the mountains.
