Molly Mowery

Wildfire Planning International

Molly Mowery, American Institute of Certified Planners, is executive director of the Community Wildfire Planning Center and founder of Wildfire Planning International. For the past 18 years, Mowery has pioneered integrating wildfire hazard with land use planning practices by developing national technical assistance programs, trainings, and guidance. Her accomplishments include creating new wildfire planning courses for the Federal Emergency Management Agency and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, serving as lead author of the American Planning Association report Planning the Wildland-Urban Interface, drafting guidance for the National Research Council of Canada, and more. Mowery frequently presents on wildfire planning topics and provided the Norman Williams Distinguished Lecture in Land Use Planning and Law hosted by the Vermont Law School. She is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners and chairs the American Planning Association's Hazard Mitigation and Disaster Recovery Planning Division. Mowery earned a Bachelor of Arts from Naropa University (Boulder, CO) and a master's in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, MA).
