Nicholas Porter

Association of State and Territorial Health Officials

Nicholas Porter is a director of Environmental Health at the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), with eight years of experience serving state and territorial environmental health professionals. In this role, Porter manages both the State and Territorial Environmental Health Directors Peer Network and the Geographic Information Systems Innovations Community of Practice. Additionally, he oversees ASTHO’s Hurricane Fiona/Ian Recovery work, which placed multiple temporary staff in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico health agencies to conduct special projects related to environmental health preparedness, response, and recovery. Porter also serves as a subject matter expert on policy issues relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) exposures through drinking water and other environmental media. Porter has previously supported ASTHO’s work on projects relating to environmental health-related COVID-19 response activities in five state health departments, pilot tests for Center for Disease Control/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry's PFAS Exposure Assessment Technical Tools in Pennsylvania and New York State, and the development of ASTHO’s Environmental Health Programs and Services Portal. Porter holds a Master of Public Health from The George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health with a concentration in environmental health science and policy.
