Peter Rinkleff

U.S. Geological Survey

Peter Rinkleff is the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Civil Application Center (NCAC) Associate Center Director for Science.

NCAC scientists analyze remote sensing data from the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) to meet the USGS and Department of the Interior missions spanning science and disaster response needs. NCAC also provides IC and DoD remote sensing data to other Federal civil agencies under the oversight of the Civil Applications Committee (CAC). The CAC is a Presidentially established committee, chaired by the USGS Director, to provide oversight, coordination, and facilitation of Federal civil agency use of Defense and Intelligence remote sensing data and capabilities. The NCAC operates facilities in Reston, Virginia, and Lakewood, Colorado, and is funded by the USGS National Land Imaging Program.

Prior to 2000, Rinkleff worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency as a research scientist conducting image science investigations and supporting several classified satellite acquisition programs.

Rinkleff graduated from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, in 2011 with a PhD in Geology, where he supported the Alaska Volcano Observatory

He lives in the Denver, Colorado area with his wife, Wendy, and two kids, Cecilia and Colin.
