Sayma Khajehei

Sayma Khajehei is an assistant professor of Geography at Towson University in the Department of Geography and Environmental Planning in the College of Liberal Arts. Her specializations are post-disaster housing recovery and community resilience. She has several years of experience working with communities dealing with disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and hurricanes. She is very interested in community resilience and disaster recovery in ways that acknowledge and address vulnerability and social inequity causes. Her research examines the housing resilience of socially vulnerable populations to natural hazards. Specifically, she focuses on how institutional actors impact post-disaster housing recovery disparities of vulnerable people to plan for more socially just and sustainable communities. She completed her doctoral degree in city and metropolitan planning at the University of Utah in 2023.
