Shelley McMullen

Shelley McMullen is a doctoral candidate in Planning, Geography, and Design at the University of Colorado Denver. Beginning her career in civil engineering with expertise in flood management, she later earned master's degrees in public administration and urban planning to deepen her understanding of development regulations and policy related to flood mitigation. As a doctoral student, she has researched environmental and hazard-related planning and land use policies across both international and domestic contexts. Her dissertation explores tensions between land use planning and disaster risk management in Rwanda. McMullen teaches Disasters and Climate Change Planning as an adjunct lecturer and serves on the executive board of the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure Graduate Student Council.
