Commitment to Communities: Duwamish Valley Coalition Building

Research, Policy, and Practice Session
Tuesday, June 16, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken D

Durable hazard resilience demands mitigation and adaptation strategies that are backed by science and grounded in local values and knowledge. This session will explore two collaborative, community-engaged research projects in the Duwamish Valley—a diverse, close-knit Seattle community at the frontline of environmental hazards like toxic pollution, sea level rise, and flooding. Panelists will discuss common challenges, including differing priorities, work timelines, and terminology across partner groups, as well as the many advantages of centering communities in hazard resilience planning.
