Dry Times: Learning from Drought and Hazards Early Warning Systems

This session will provide an overview of the National Integrated Drought Information System and will highlight key partnerships that strengthen research and drought mitigation activities. Presenters will provide an overview of Drought Early Warning Systems, including key components related to observations and monitoring, predictions and forecasting, planning and preparedness, communications and outreach, and interdisciplinary research and applications. Innovative drought early warning tools and research on human health impacts of drought will be shared. The session will conclude with an interactive discussion regarding lessons learned in creating and continually improving all-hazards early warning systems from research to practice to policy.
