Developing Community-Led Mitigation Plans for Hazards Resilience

Monday, July 14, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Pine

Every community faces hazards, and each has a unique set of values, resources, and capabilities at the local level. Therefore, top-down, one-size-fits all hazard mitigation plans will never be as effective as community-led and developed plans that acknowledge the complexity of local context. This session will explore ways to meet communities where they are and cultivate relationships with local mitigation planners embedded in private enterprise, nonprofits, academic institutions, and all levels of government. Panelists will discuss activities such as asset mapping and collaborative risk analysis to capture unique aspects of cultural heritage and generational knowledge.
