As more responsibility for mitigation and disaster management is assumed by state and municipal governments, this panel will discuss strategies for localizing activities. Speakers will talk about how to build partnerships with community-based organizations, social services, and volunteer networks to reduce further strain on local government resources and reach socially vulnerable populations before, during, and after disasters. They’ll also discuss how local leaders can embrace proactive policymaking to strengthen capacity and coordination and build resilience in non-disaster times.
