Making the Most of Disaster Dollars

Tuesday, July 15, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Centennial E

Disasters cause billions of dollars in losses each year. Widespread, repetitive damage is straining federal, state, and local programs, resources are increasingly scarce, and the private insurance industry is pulling out of many high-risk areas. Disaster assistance has not kept pace with the increasing frequency and severity of disasters, and communities are forced to do more with less disaster recovery dollars. In this session, panelists will share strategies that states, municipalities, and individual borrowers can use to secure additional funding, strengthen local disaster budgets, and stretch investments further by incentivizing hazard mitigation and risk reduction.
