Networking Roundtable: Expecting the Unexpected in Hazard Mitigation
Sunday, July 13, 3:45 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken D
More communities across the United States and globally are facing hazards of a type or magnitude they never expected or planned for. In 2024, for example, Hurricane Helene devastated inland mountain communities that were once lauded as “climate havens,” while the urban firestorm in January 2025 in Los Angeles marked some of the most destructive wildfires in state history. This roundtable will draw on these recent disasters as a starting point to imagine a stronger approach to emergency management, one which bridges the gap between recovery and resilience in the face of a rapidly evolving risk landscape.
