Heather Stone

Heather Stone is an associate professor and the Nalley/Louisiana Education Quality Support Fund endowed professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. With over fifteen years of experience in education, she has developed curricula for K–12 schools, higher education institutions, and community-based initiatives.
Stone leads oral history projects focused on coastal communities experiencing land loss due to climate change. Her research, supported by numerous grants, focuses on amplifying community voices and documenting how individuals respond to environmental disruptions. She works in close collaboration with residents to integrate oral histories and virtual reality, producing immersive, place-based narratives that communicate the lived experience of resilience.
An educator committed to storytelling that matters, Stone brings these narratives into classrooms and community spaces, engaging students, local officials, and policymakers. Her work fosters a deeper understanding of what it means to sustain vibrant lives on a changing planet.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and graphic design from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned both her Master of Arts in educational leadership and her Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University.
