Universities can leverage their research capacity, student engagement, and cross-disciplinary strengths to partner with public officials to co-produce knowledge that directly benefits communities. In this session, partners from the Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security, the University of New Orleans, and Louisiana State University will share a model for applied research to help residents, local and state officials, and communities understand their risks and build durable disaster resilience. These long-time partners will describe elements of their partnership dating back more than two decades, including sharing how their partnership began, expanded, and ultimately resulted in several successful applied research projects including multiple state hazard mitigation plans.
