Partnerships for Urban Transformation

Panel Session
Monday, June 15, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Centennial E

Urban planners can play a key role in building resilient communities through building coalitions to move disaster mitigation projects from vision to reality. Indeed, planners already often act as intermediaries to coordinate diverse stakeholders and leverage funding, data, and staff across sectors. This session features six leading planning scholars who will share hard-won lessons from Turkey, Puerto Rico, Nepal, Japan, Haiti, the Gulf Coast, and beyond. Panelists will describe how theories of coalition building are applied in real-world planning contexts. They will also discuss how participation, power, equity, and gender shape alliances and project implementation practices in various hazardous contexts.
