Disaster Planning with Systems-Impacted Communities
Networking Roundtable
Sunday, June 14, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. MDT
Location: TBD
Disaster risks and vulnerabilities are unevenly distributed and deeply rooted in social systems that keep many populations at the margins. Majority Black communities, rural communities, people with disabilities, and immigrants, among others, face barriers that can worsen their experience of disasters. Yet the wisdom of these groups and their communities is often not meaningfully incorporated into disaster management or resilience-building. This roundtable, led by Bill Anderson Fund fellows, invites attendees to reflect on how systemicinequalities shape disaster risk and discuss approaches to elevate marginalized communities as equal partners for collaborative disaster planning.
