Planning for Complex, Cascading Drought Hazards

Plenary Session
Wednesday, June 17, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken A/B

To strengthen multi-hazard planning efforts, it is essential for communities to consider how drought underlies, interacts with, and increases the risk of other natural hazards such as wildfire. This session will draw on expertise from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Integrated Drought Information System to review tools and information that planners, policy makers, and emergency managers can use to understand drought conditions, impacts, and connections to other hazards. Panelists will share success stories from local and tribal governments that responded to hazards with a drought plan in place, with insights on how to successfully reduce risk and strengthen resilience for this complex hazard.
