Managing Disaster-Related Migration: Lessons from Katrina and Fukushima
Wed. 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., Interlocken C
The session lays the groundwork for a comprehensive framework to understand key aspects of disaster-related migration by focusing on two disasters in which substantial migration was an issue—Hurricane Katrina and the Fukushima Daichii nuclear disaster. There have been several important lessons from both disasters. Presenters will discuss the complexity of factors that influence decisions to migrate, including age, race/ethnicity, income, homeowner status, and gender.
