WiRē: Uniting Research and Practice to Address “Last-Mile” Wildfire Problems

Wed. 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Interlocken A

The work of wildfire practitioners is critical to the transformation of our nation’s relationship with wildland fire. This panel will share the Wildfire Research (WiRē) Team’s approach to forging a new path to support this work. The team addresses the “last-mile problem” of making research useful so community-based programs elicit the desired response—in this case, getting homeowners to take action to mitigate wildfire risk. WiRē draws on an interdisciplinary researcher-practitioner collaboration approach that uses local data to develop and improve programs that allow residents to live with wildland fire.
